How can Glenview reach its fullest potential?

That’s one of many questions at the heart of a yearlong process to update Glenview’s Comprehensive Plan – the Village’s visionary document and roadmap for future success over the next 20 years.

A Values and Visioning Charrette at Village Hall this week will explore points of pride, areas needing attention, and how growth, transportation and environmental issues mesh with Glenview’s quality of life.

Village officials strongly encourage residents to join the two-day workshop, which will include a presentation on existing conditions in the Village and an opportunity to participate in an interactive survey via key pad where common values are discussed. Live results will be displayed during the session.

“We’ll need a lot of public input,” shared Planning Director Jeffrey Brady at an initial meeting June 22.

A second day of workshops will review vision alternatives in addition to a Community Values Analysis that will incorporate a visual preference survey. Assessment of what officials and residents value about the Village will be noted along with suggested goals for inclusion in a Preferred Vision Statement towards the the 2016 Comprehensive Plan.

A 17-person Comprehensive Plan Update Committee, chaired by Kerry Cummings, is steering the “Glenview Looking Forward” program. The panel includes 12 residents from the community and representatives from the village’s various boards and commissions.

The next series of workshops, Sept. 28 throughout Oct. 1, will consider scenarios for executing ideas from this week’s upcoming charrette.

A draft of the new Comprehensive Plan is scheduled for release in January 2016; the final draft should publish in spring 2016.

This week’s workshops are at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, and Thursday, July 23 at Village Hall, 1225 Waukegan Road.
