LAKE FOREST – There is a new summer musical theater ensemble in Lake Forest. Tom Beck, a Golden Apple Award winning teacher, has launched his first high-school summer musical – “Godspell,” for students aged 13-18.
“Godspell” was the first major musical offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz, (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and it took the theater world by storm. Led by international hit “Day by Day” “Godspell” features a parade of memorable songs.
There is a strong emphasis on singing, acting and dancing in this summer camp, and actors will learn the art of theater-in-the-round while the audience experiences cabaret seating. Costuming, by Sue R. Beck, is based on the most recent Broadway showing of the musical in 2012.
Performances are Friday, July 31 at 6 p.m.; Saturday, August 1 at 3 p.m.; and Sunday August 2 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at gortoncenter.org or call (847) 234-6060.
