Wilmette six-year-old Nate Butkus talks to talk show host Ellen Degeneres about his podcast. “The Show About Science”

WILMETTE – At age six, not only does Nate Butkus of Wilmette have a science podcast, he also has been on network TV.

On Jan. 24, Nate was featured on NBC’s The Ellen DeGeneres Show, wearing a white lab coat, yellow tie and demonstrating how to use eye-protection “haboob goggles” for protection in sandstorms. Hee told the talk show host that he keeps them around “in case I ever go to Arizona or Utah.”

Nate’s podcast is called “The Show About Science,” which he started when he was five. He told Ellen that science has been his favorite topic since he was three, when he mixed water, salt and food coloring to make … red salt water.

According to NBC-5 Chicago, “The Show About Science podcast gets about 3,000 to 4,000 listens per interview and made $500.

When Ellen asked the boy who books the podcast’s guests, Nate said: “Sometimes I do, and sometimes my dad books the guests — but I still have to approve of them. If we’re lucky a guest will book us.”

Then he added to the laughter of the studio audience: “A quick shout out, I’ll always approve!”
