LINCOLNSHIRE – Do-it-yourself reality host Alison Victoria is used to crashing kitchens, but in February, she’ll be crashing a Lincolnshire Greek Orthodox Church. The Ascension Legacy Gala, celebrating the upcoming groundbreaking of the Ascension of Our Lord Greek Orthodox Church, is set for February 4 at the Marriott Linconshire Resort. Victoria will host the event, which features dinner and dancing to the Chris Sarlas Orchestra. She recently visited the current church building, which will become part of the new complex on the same site on Riverwoods Road. Victoria noted the dated kitchen and classroom facilities that have been the community’s home for the past 15 years, and vowed to assist the parish in planning its new facility.

Ascension of Our Lord began celebrating liturgy in an auditorium of Stevenson High School in January, 1998. Parishioners taught Sunday School in the lobby, and competed with cheers from adjacent swim meets for the attention of their young students. Later that year, the church purchased property at 1201 Riverwoods Road and began converting a six-bedroom ranch house to offices and classrooms, and built a “temporary” addition for worship that has served as its church since 2001. Parishoners come from all over Lake and Cook Counties, from Lake Forest to Barrington, and active ministries continue to grow.

Alison Victoria, host of Kitchen Crashers on HGTV and DIY Network, and a new show, Windy City Rehab, set to debut next season on HGTV, will return to her Greek roots as she hosts the Gala and looks to help the Ascension reach its fundraising goal.
