WINNETKA – Winnetkans hoping to sip fresh mugs of hot chocolate while skating in Hubbard Woods Park this winter will have to wait until next year, but Graeter’s is still planning on opening a ice cream shop across from the park by spring 2017.

The delay was caused by a code violation involving the floor, which was mistakenly removed by a contractor when work started in July. The village approved plans for the project in June and permits were issued in July, but those plans did not include replacing the floors.

Work has halted on the project as Graeter’s and the building’s owner work out a dispute over the code violations. Graeter’s media contact Sue Reninger told DailyNorthShore construction was likely to begin again by January, with a grand opening expected in spring 2017. “In short, we are moving ahead!” Reniger said.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, the family owned business is known for its signature hand-crafted ice cream but also sells bakery items such as cookies, cakes and pies. The only other location in Chicagoland can be found in downtown Northbrook, which opened in spring 2015.
