NORTHBROOK — A gunman wearing a bandana to cover his face robbed the Potbelly Sandwich Works on Oct. 1 in the 800 block of Skokie Blvd. in Northbrook, according to Dan Petka, the Northbrook Police Department’s community relations supervisor.
Two employees entered the shop through the back before 8 a.m. to get things ready for the day’s business, according to Petka. He said they were working in the back of the restaurant.
“They looked up and saw the offender standing in the room pointing a gun,” said Petka. “He ordered them to the floor and told the manager to take the money out of the safe.”
Petka said officers were uncertain whether the safe was open or the gunman forced the manager to unlock it. The offender left after getting approximately $3,000. The employees called police after they felt it was safe and the officers responded to the scene at 7:55 a.m.
The front door was locked, according to Petka. He said the robber entered through the back door. Petka said the gunman is a black male of medium height and build. He was wearing a bandanna over his face and a hat.
Though Petka said there was no video at the back entrance, the police are actively working on the case.
“We are looking for similar patterns,” Petka said. “Since there was no video we’re going on descriptions.”
Though robberies, like burglaries, can go unsolved, Petka said an arrest was made in a robbery a few blocks north in the 300 block of Skokie Blvd. last year.
