Forrest Dale Rose, Jr.

10 days before his 94th birthday Forrest passed away peacefully at his Highwood home, February 22, 2016. Preceded in death by his devoted wife for 63 years, Agnes Mary (nee Naughton) of Highland Park, he is survived by six loving children, Peggy Ann Buchman (Brian Hendrickson), of Mundelein, Bill (Maureen) of Highland Park, Patricia (Roy Scholtka) of Wauwatosa, Mary Ellen Rose of San Antonio, Kathy (John Di Tomasso) of Northbrook and Liz Rose (Mark Fisher) of Green Oaks, further lovingly survived by 19 grandchildren Joann, Laura, Cindy, William, Jennifer, Christina, Corey, Matthew, Bridget, Emily, Andrew, Nicholas, Robert, Clarice, Declan, Johnny, Jodi, Mike and Kyle, their families and 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Forrest was born March 3, 1922 in Highland Park to the late Forrest Sr. and Irene Rose.

He lived, grew up and raised his family in Highland Park. Forrest enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard as an apprentice seaman in December, 1941, WWII. He served as electrician aboard the USS Selstrom DE-255 the escort, patrol and guard ship of LCI Landing Craft Infantry and convoys worldwide until honorably discharged as the youngest Chief Petty Officer in May of 1946. His Ship engaged forces in 23 Atlantic crossings, Gibraltar and Casablanca in North Africa, French Morocco, Bizerte, Tunisia, Caribbean, Panama Canal, Aleutian Islands, Japan, Tsingtao China, Jinsen Korea, Pearl Harbor, Scotland, Liverpool England, Belfast Ireland, LeHavre France and Dutch Harbor Alaska. After several years of working at Great Lakes, in 1956 Forrest joined the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 150 of Lake County, Illinois, and was a proud union Brother a JATC apprentice instructor, an Executive Board member, a great supporter of the 150 Family Christmas Party, Welfare Trustee advocate for college dependents coverage, well-respected electrician and member for 28 years and beyond, with his retirement in 1984. Forrest was fulfilled by bringing his son Bill (retired Brother) and grandson William Jr. (current 150 member Brother) into the 150 Electrical Union Brotherhood. He was a lifetime Cubs fan, church usher, Realtor and dog breeder as well as a member of Elks Club and American Legion 145. Forrest and Agnes loved to travel after retirement and went on many memorable cruises to Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and South America. The family is grateful for the end-of-life care provided by the kind people at Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter, Glenview and LivHome, Skokie, especially Bryan, Ciera and Bim.

A memorial service will be planned in April at the chapel of Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd. Libertyville, IL 60048 with private family burial following.
