dns_Letter_editor_150_110I’m a lifelong resident of Highland Park, a graduate and a proud parent of graduates of Highland Park’s elementary schools.

One distinct aspect in Highland Park is the deserved pride we hold in our schools. Whether we are new families, just starting the great adventure of education, or now having the pleasure to see where the springboard of our schools has led our children and grandchildren, as a community, we know that few things are more important to sustain our society than the education of our children.

That’s why I’m supporting the 112 school reconfiguration referendum.

Our current school configuration, cobbled together decades ago, is using facilities that are no longer physically suitable and are clearly no longer able to provide the best educational environment for our children. And, due to the inevitable demographic and economic shifts that occur over time, many of our schools have unbalanced enrollment and classroom sizes, leading to disparate and challenging educational situations as well as compromised district finances. Without the reconfiguration plan, the current situation will deteriorate further.

Our children, our community’s children, deserve the best preparation for their future and our future. The reconfiguration plan provides that preparation. Please join me in voting YES on March 15th
